SILVER LAKES / HELENDALE, San Bernardino County — October 29, 2026. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department will retain its existing reporting-station space in Helendale under a five-year lease amendment that carries a nominal $1 annual rent. The Board of Supervisors approved the agreement with Silver Lakes Association on June 23, 2026.
Where is the Sheriff’s reporting station?
County records identify approximately 170 square feet of office space at 27801 Mountain Springs Road in Helendale. The office supports Sheriff personnel serving the Helendale area, including nearby Silver Lakes. The arrangement concerns an existing office rather than funding a new sheriff’s headquarters, jail or additional patrol positions.
What does the revised lease say?
Amendment No. 5 to county lease 07-983 extends the term from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2031. The board also approved one optional three-year extension and one optional five-year extension. The published rent schedule totals $5 for the five-year period, plus approximately $0.24 for an earlier permitted holdover period. The amendment raises the historical cumulative lease agreement amount from $17.83 to $23.07.
Those unusually small amounts are expressly stated in the county’s public record; they should not be mistaken for the operating budget of the Sheriff’s Department or a total value of public-safety services provided to the area.
Why does the association offer space at nominal rent?
County staff explain that the agreement continues a long-standing local reporting location. The original lease dates to 2007 and has been renewed several times. Under the current terms, the association provides building maintenance and utilities, while the county provides custodial services. The county reports no improvements or construction costs in this lease amendment.
Does this change patrol hours?
No schedule change is established in the lease document. Residents should not infer new walk-in hours, deputies or expanded emergency response from a real-estate agreement. The Sheriff’s Victor Valley Patrol Station page is the appropriate place to check current station contacts and service information. In an emergency, call 911.
